The Dangdong Hotel facade is a facelift project on an island near the port city of Dangdong, on the border of North Korea and China. Most of the existing buildings will be demolished in order to make room for an expansive project comprising residences, offices and hotels, as well as individual villas (see project above).

The client has decided to keep one of the buildings and do a facelift while keeping the same function – hotel. In order to make the image more interesting the building’s rigidness has been refined by adding horizontal wood/formica bris-soleils that unify the facade and better define the whole volume. This has been parasitated with glass boxes coming out of the facade in random positions in order to create a more lively image while stressing the glass-wood contrast.
